Explanation
The meridians are a concept of Ancient Chinese Medicine, and can be thought of as the energy network of the body.
- The 8 Extraordinary Meridians are located symmetrically on both sides of the body (left and right), with the exception of the governing and conception meridians.
- Together with the 12 Main Meridians, the 8 Extraordinary Meridians form a complex web of connections and Qi or life force energy circulation in the body, helping to create strength and balance, both energetically and physically.
- These 8 meridians form first in utero, and represent the deepest energetic structure of the body.
- Each of the 8 Extraordinary Meridians fulfills various functions in the body, including:
- Acting as deep reservoirs of Qi and blood for the 12 Main Meridians, replenishing them and absorbing their excess energy as needed.
- Circulating Jing Qi (prenatal “essence” energy received at conception and stored within the Kidneys).
- Protecting from negative energy by circulating Guardian Qi or “Wei Qi” over the trunk of the body.
- Regulating life cycle changes.
- A meridian may become imbalanced, usually when the energy flow is weakened or blocked by an associated imbalance.
The Penetrating Meridian begins between the kidneys, branching out in different directions. One branch descends through the pelvis to the perineum. Another branch descends down the inner leg to the inner foot and big toe. Another branch reaches up through the abdomen, along with the kidney meridian, then spreads throughout the abdomen and chest. Another branch continues up to the throat, chin and eyes. Another branch reaches up the spine with the Governing Meridian.

Decoding
Ask: Is the imbalanced meridian on the left side of the body?
- If yes, move to Association.
- If no, it is on the right. Move to Association.
Association
Ask: Is there an associated imbalance that needs to be decoded?
- If no (unlikely), move to Intention.
- If yes, return to the home page, decode and address any associated imbalance(s), then return here and repeat the above question.
Intention
Swipe three times with a magnet or your hand on any length of the governing meridian, while holding the intention to balance the energy flow of the meridian.
