Explanation
The pharynx is the open area at the back of the throat above the openings of the trachea and esophagus. The pharynx consists of three continuous areas:
- The upper portion being called the nasopharynx (above the soft palate) which is the back of the nasal cavity
- The area of the pharynx at the back of the throat, known as the oropharynx
- The part of the pharynx below the back of the tongue, at the back of the throat, above the esophagus, known as the laryngopharynx.
Common symptoms of imbalance may include:
- Discomfort in the back of the throat
